Due to Senator Pinsky’s intervention, and as a result of constituent complaints, the Maryland Department of Transportation recently promulgated new regulations governing driver’s education classes and instructors.
The new rules require driving schools to inform students and parents of their rights and responsibilities. Driving schools must give at least eight hours notice if either classroom or behind-the-wheel training is cancelled or postponed by more than two hours. Schools must give credit for classroom and behind the wheel hours if a student transfers to a new school. Schools must also provide a prorated refund for cancellations or transfers to a new school. And finally, parents and students who are not satisfied with a school, may file a complaint with the state Motor Vehicle Administration.
The new rules took effect December 11, 2008.
